Where it all began
One afternoon, Jeremy and I were traveling home after a work function and talking about some of our dreams and aspirations. Through our conversation, we revealed that we both have sheepdog mentalities, meaning we are always looking over our flock.
“Most of the people in our society are sheep. They are kind, gentle, productive creatures who can only hurt one another by accident. Then there are the wolves, and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy. Then there are the sheepdogs, and I’m a sheepdog. I live to protect the flock and confront the wolf.” – Grossman, David. On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society. Boston, Little, Brown, 1995.
Jeremy and I share that same ethos; we “live to protect the flock and confront the wolf.”
After concluding that we wanted to make our homes and our community safer, we decided to team up and create a one-stop shop defense and training agency that teaches critical lifesaving, life-preserving, and self-defense skills.
Thus, JACL Defense was born.
